Distribution resarch-Psychology Today Magazine
The physical distribution of Psychology Today has many outlets such as, Barnes and Noble, Walmart, K-mart, Target, Kroger, Publix, Whole Foods Market, Lucky's Market, CVS, Walgreens, etc. These are all places where they know their product will appeal to the demographic in these locations. These grocery and pharmacy stores attract the kind of audience that Psychology today is looking for. They distribute their product through their website and Amazon. This attracts the electronic readers to their customer base. Amazon is also a huge source for print distribution. They have a website to attract viewers who are curious about the product and give them the option to subscribe. Their online distribution comes from places like Amazon.com and Discountmags.com. In their subscription sign up, they have the option of the American, Canadian, or the International subscription which shows their wide range of distribution. They also ask for your address, which is how they distribute their print copies. They ask for your email address which is how they distribute the ads for their product. Both of these components make up the majority of their distribution. The online subscription is made to be more appealing because they state in their brief about the subscription, "Save up to 55% off of the newsstand price." This gives the subscriber a sense that they are choosing the cheaper option while having the same perks of every issue of their magazine. There subscription offers the ability to have their product on any mobile device which is appealing to the younger generations, who are always on the go. Psychology Today has a wide international audience they distribute to, as well. They distribute to North American countries like Mexico, Canada, and the US; European countries such as: The UK, Spain, Austria, etc.; The Asian Pacific countries such as: Austria, Hong Kong, and New Zealand; and Chile and South Africa. This illustrates the wide range of distribution that this company holds, which is also a sign of their success.
I plan to use both the website distribution plan with a subscription option and use Amazon for my print copy distribution. As far as the stores I distribute my product to, I will use most of the same stores to market and distribute my product because they are the same locations that my customer base shops at, as well. I plan to model the distribution plan of Psychology Today because of their success and proven system.
