Audience Engagement post- Psychology Today
Psychology Today readers are 62% women and 38% men. The age range they cater to is ages 18-49 who have either attended college or graduated college. The income of their readers is $40,000 to $60,000. They advertise in stores such as: Barnes and Noble; Target; Publix; Whole Foods; CVS; and Walgreens. All of these places are common destinations for the average American and also puts out their product to the extensively health minded. Their audience is interested in their physical health, as well as their mental health. Some topics they know cater to their readers are: Medical advice; relationships; self-improvement; food and nutrition; and fitness. When considering the audience that Psychology Today reaches, it can be seen that my audience is quite similar to theirs. My audience is primarily women, my audience ranges from 18 and up, my income level is from $50,000 to $150,000, and my education level is high school graduate to college graduate. The personal interests of their audience is almost identical to mine because both our audiences are interested in their mental and physical health. They market their product through brick and mortar stores, as well as, through their website, and three different types of social media.
This is a sample of their website. They have options to find a therapist; go their magazines; and be updated on the most recent news in the psychology world. This is a great spread of their content, which could attract a subscriber if they visitor is interested in what is featured on the website.
The primary content of Psychology Today is quotes on relationships, self-care, and how to deal with mental illness. These types of quotes are very attractive to the audience they are trying to reach and give the company a way to reach the younger generations through social media.
Their Facebook page features their latest issue of their magazine. They also feature top articles with the latest news in psychology. This is important in drawing the reader in, because they will be lead to their website for more information on a topic they are interested in.
These forms of audience engagement is what I plan to execute with my magazine. I hope to create a Facebook page, Instagram, and website. The magazines I have researched have inspired me to follow in the path they have created for marketing a product.
