Magazine Project Research-Scientific American (Why We Eat and Eat and Eat...)

April 2007The cover has an animation placed in the center which is common for the Scientific American. They use animations to combine pictures and tell a complex story. This features a women with a cheeseburger for her brain. This accompanies the title of the magazine which explains the animation, "Psychology of Food Why We Eat and Eat and Eat...". As usual the Scientific American logo is in the top, this time the top left. The white is used to allow more attention to the woman. They also feature red, white and blue to symbolize the American lifestyle of eating that is clearly spelled out with the picture of the cheeseburger. On either side of the woman are other articles features in the magazine such as: brain help, anxiety, adults and teens, etc. The advertisements features in this magazine are geared towards those who are concerned about there health and wellbeing which shows why they are advertising supplements for more energy and monitoring devises for reduction of stress. The pictures used for their articles in this issue are x-rays of the brain for "Freeing a Locked-In Brain" and a person looking into a mirror for an article titled, "Through a Glass, Darkly". Though I could not find the distribution number, the Scientific American has 3.5+ million social media followers with 3.5 million readers globally. The Scientific American received the Exploratorium's Ten Cool Sites Award for excellence in education, as well as, being the Webby Honoree for science and news.
